Avon Lake - Virtual Interior Design Services

When a family of four moved to Avon Lake, Ohio, they knew their new home came with challenges. The husband, wife and their two young children had moved during a time of low inventory, making it their only option in a tight market. While it was located in a great neighborhood and had potential, they knew there would be changes they’d want to make to the first-floor layout and aesthetics. After living there for a few years and preparing for a kitchen remodel, they realized it was time to reimagine the adjoining spaces to create a more cohesive and functional flow. That’s when they turned to me for help.

Milestone Home Design was an incredible experience! The creativity and attention to detail was unmatched. We had three rooms in a newly renovated home that needed to be thoughtfully programmed to double as a comfortable family home and place to entertain. The service was also affordable and fast. We are so excited to bring these designs to life in our home! Thank you Milestone Home Design! 🙌 highly recommend!

Through my virtual interior design services, I guided them in transforming three distinct rooms on the first floor. Together, we explored creative ways to connect the newly renovated kitchen with a front room off the foyer, family room and back room, making every square foot work harder for their growing family.

Concept 1:

The first concept focused on maximizing comfort and utility. For the living room, I placed a sectional sofa facing the fireplace to create a warm gathering space for family movie nights. Floating shelves adorned the far wall, showcasing family photos and decor, while a secondary seating area along the blank wall added flexibility for larger gatherings. I also showed drapes which added a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

In the entryway, I envisioned a speakeasy-inspired lounge with dark, moody walls and cozy furniture. Four club chairs arranged around a circular coffee table created an intimate conversation area. Open shelving and a bar cart added functionality and character.

The backroom was transformed into a casual family room with two sofas around a circular coffee table. Decorative benches beneath the windows and ample storage made this space ideal for kids’ toys or outdoor gear, seamlessly connecting it to the patio.

Concept 2:

This concept reimagined the entryway as a formal living room, complete with a loveseat and two club chairs arranged around a rectangular coffee table. Square paneling added visual interest, while a classic light fixture tied the room together.

In the living room, I moved the TV to a nook on the blank wall. This opened up possibilities for the fireplace, which now served as an elegant focal point with art above it. I showed four chairs around a rectangular coffee table to form a cozy conversation area, while two accent chairs near the sunroom doors added flexibility.

For the backroom, I proposed a formal dining area with a built-in dry bar along the back wall. I also showed a small seating area, which provided a cozy corner for informal gatherings. This addition elevated the space, making it ideal for hosting dinner parties or family gatherings, while still leaving room for everyday practicality.

Concept 3:

The third concept embraced creativity and maximized functionality for the family’s needs. The entryway became a game room with bold bookcases flanking a central circular table, creating a welcoming yet dynamic first impression.

In the living room, I maximized seating by incorporating two couches flanking the fireplace and two additional chairs completing the perfect arrangement for larger get-togethers. High shelving along the back wall added both visual interest and storage.

The backroom became a hybrid space—a secondary game space combined with a family / playroom. I showed a game table paired with cozy seating and ample toy storage to keep clutter at bay. Floating shelves near the patio doors allowed for decorative displays, ensuring the room was functional and stylish.

Tailored Revisions:

After reviewing the concepts, the family selected their favorite elements and made thoughtful adjustments to create a personalized design.

In the entry room, they fully embraced the moody, old-world speakeasy vibe. Dark walls and wainscoting brought warmth and sophistication, while a brown tufted leather loveseat with rolled arms paired beautifully with two wingback chairs. They opted for wall decor from Concept 1 and added a striking chandelier to complete the space.

For the back room, they loved the layout from Concept 2 but requested a larger dry bar instead of the small seating area. The dry bar design evolved to include glass and metal shelving against a grass cloth wallpaper accent wall (from Concept 1) or wooden shelves with built-ins (from Concept 2). Darker rugs were introduced to ground the space and provide contrast.

In the living room, the family chose to place the TV on the vaulted wall, combining the functional layout of Concept 2 with an alternate furniture configuration. A couch replaced the two chairs facing the TV, and the colors of the couch and chairs near the sunroom door were swapped for better harmony. Alternative rugs and new fireplace styles were also incorporated to refine the design further.

These revisions ensured the home not only met the family’s functional needs but also reflected their personal taste and lifestyle.

Deliverables:

To make these ideas tangible, I provided:

  • A detailed design summary making it easy to compare layouts, features, and materials.

  • Immersive panoramic views for an interactive experience, allowing the family to virtually explore each concept and better understand how the space would feel.

  • A high-resolution image gallery showcasing every detail of each concept perfect for reference throughout the project.

These deliverables provided the family with more than just visuals—they became a valuable resource they could save and reference at any time. By sharing these materials with contractors, the family ensured their vision was clearly communicated, streamlining the entire remodeling process and avoiding costly misunderstandings.
