Florida - Home Exterior Design

A couple in sunny Florida had a grand vision for their home - they were planning an addition that would double the size of their existing footprint. This massive undertaking required thoughtful planning to ensure the final design captured both elegance and functionality - in both the interior and the home’s exterior design. While their architect and builder were integral to the project, something crucial was missing - 3D visualizations to bring their ideas to life. That’s when they found me.

Their goal was to explore various styles for their home facade, including different window shapes, landscaping options and front entrance designs. This was a significant investment, and they wanted to be sure the addition blended seamlessly with the existing structure, enhancing curb appeal and maximizing the value of their home. Despite working with them 100% virtually throughout the entire process, we collaborated together quite effectively and ensured the end result aligned perfectly with their version.

Bringing the Vision to Life

We started with three distinct design concepts, each focusing on key elements like rooflines, privacy solutions and landscaping.

Concept 1:

The first concept featured a warm, classic look with rectangular windows framed by wooden shutters and a stucco wall. A cozy patio to the left provided an inviting space to relax, while lush landscaping hugged the home’s exterior. The front entrance was reimagined with a smaller yet more polished design, featuring an arched entrance and detail beneath the peak. A fountain with beautiful flowering bushes adorned the roundabout.

Concept 2:

For the second concept, we elevated the privacy factor by adding a higher wall around the front facade. To balance this, I introduced vibrant landscaping in front of the wall, drawing the eye to a carefully designed green space. The entrance saw a simpler roofline with trellises around the garage and a complementary pergola over the patio. We replaced the fountain in the roundabout with a striking palm tree for a more tropical vibe. Arched black windows added a touch of timeless elegance, complementing the simple design of the updated facade.

Concept 3:

The third concept embraced a modern, minimalist aesthetic. We removed the privacy wall entirely, opting for strategic landscaping to define the space. The front entrance became a focal point with sleek, contemporary design elements, while modern black windows added to the clean lines and overall updated look.

The Revision: Refining the Details

After reviewing the concepts, the couple honed in on specific elements they loved. They chose a calming blue as the accent color for the front of the home and decided on simpler hedge privacy landscaping to keep insects at bay. The 3D visualizations helped them decide on the right size and style for their windows but the shutters were still up for debate. These revisions ensured the design not only met their aesthetic goals but also addressed practical concerns.

Deliverables

To bring their ideas to life, I provided:

  • A detailed design summary, outlining each concept’s features to help them weigh their options effectively.

  • Immersive panoramic views, enabling them to virtually “walk through” the design and get a feel for how it would look in real life.

  • A large-format image gallery, highlighting every detail of the proposed designs with clarity.

These deliverables served as more than just design tools; they became an invaluable resource for both the clients, their architect and builder. They could save and reference these materials for as long as needed, ensuring they stayed aligned with their vision throughout the process. These visuals made collaboration seamless, clearly communicating their goals to achieve the best outcome.
