Lorain - Basement Renovation Design
In Lorain, Ohio, a single homeowner approached me for help showcasing her unfinished basement’s potential. As she contemplated selling her home, she wanted to commission visualizations that would appeal to future buyers, catering to different lifestyles and ultimately increasing her home’s value. Together, we explored three unique basement renovation design concepts, each highlighting a different way to transform the space.
I used Milestone Design to plan some changes to my unfinished basement. It’s really easy to use and opens your mind to other options. You will be surprised at the possible outcomes you will be presented with. Erin is extremely professional and makes sure you can coordinate your plan with all parties involved.
From a cozy family room to a vibrant playroom and even a professional home office, these designs demonstrated just how flexible the space could be.
Concept 1: Family Room Retreat
The first concept transformed the front room into a cozy family living space. I showed a sectional sofa, coffee table, built-in bookshelves, and a bench that sat against the stair wall. This layout was perfect for movie nights or relaxed gatherings.
In the back room, I created a sleek bathroom with a corner shower, vanity and storage cabinet above the toilet. I also showed a functional laundry room featuring cabinets above and across the washer and dryer for organized storage with additional counter space.
Concept 2: Playroom Paradise
I designed this concept with families in mind, so I turned the front room into a playful haven. With two large bookshelves, a small table and whimsical decor like a dollhouse and a tent, I brought this space to life.
In the back room, I made the bathroom similar to concept 1, though I showed a different mirror and light fixtures above the vanity and art above the toilet. In the laundry room, I included open shelving above the washer and dryer and full-length pantry-style cabinets across for added flexibility.
Concept 3: Professional Office
For those needing a dedicated workspace, I created this design to transform the front room into a home office. A freestanding desk, large bookcase and comfortable seating area made it ideal for productivity.
The back room offered a bathroom similar to concepts 1 and 2, though I changed the vanity, mirror and lighting and included a green wall accents above the toilet. The laundry room featured suspended open shelving for a streamlined look.
